Sanitation Advocacy Specialist:

Muskan Shrestha, Sanitation Advocacy Specialist of Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN)

[Based in MuAN – Kathmandu, Nepal]

Muskan Shrestha has been working in areas of Urban and Rural Environment, community development, local governance system, project managementand capacity building for over 10 years with relevant training/s exposure and an academic degree. Earlier, he has conducted feasibility studies of micro hydropower stations and worked at Hetauda and Jaleshwore Municipalities as Urban Governance Expert as well as Regional Monitoring and Accountability Expert for Regional Coordination Unit at Dhulikhel– both under Local Governments and Community Development Program (LGCDP, Phase I & II) project of Government of Nepal and UNDP. His experience spans from preparing Initial Environmental Examinations (IEE) reports, Environmental Management Plan/s (EMP), Municipal periodic plan, Municipal Transportation Masterplan (MTMP), land use plan and Integrated Sustainable Solid Waste Management. His worksfurther included preparing the project-funding matrix, conducting social audits of public physical infrastructural projects, preparing reports and tracking outputs for then District Development Committees, Village Development Committees and municipalities in 12 districts of Dhulikhel region. He was also Program Officer working on disaster preparedness plans (with focus on disability) and renewable energyin Kavre District for Resource Management and Rural Empowerment Center (REMREC). His worked included entrepreneurship development and skill based trainings to marginalized communities. He believes in learning through sharing and has experiences of sharing his professional knowledge and ideas in various international platforms in South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, India and Bangladesh. Heholds a graduate degree in Environmental Engineering from Kathmandu University and a Master’s degree in Rural Development from Tribhuwan University.
